This work depicts the leaf of the Native Honey Grevillea plant – Tharrkarr, an important plant in Rhonda’s country because of the sweet honey found in its flowers. The honey is usually sucked straight from the flower, or the flowers can be steeped in water to make a sweet drink.

Rhonda Jones‘ community has a vibrant artistic tradition and her mother, the artist Gypsy Jones, taught her and her sisters to paint. They all paint variations on their dreaming and landscape the primary subject of which is Honey Grevillea or Tharrkarr.

She uses a fine nib and the gutta bottle to work her canvas.
